Disabling and enabling search suggestions for a search profile

By default, search suggestions are enabled for all search profiles in the Portfolio system. You can disable search suggestions for a search profile if you do not want to display search suggestions to patrons with the specific search profile when they use Searching.

Although search suggestions are enabled by default, the system task for updating the search suggestions list (SUGGEST_TERM_JOB) is not scheduled by default. If you enable search suggestions for search profiles, you must schedule the SUGGEST_TERM_JOB task to run nightly. (See Managing scheduled tasks for information.)

If you are running Portfolio with the Symphony Accountability module enabled, the Searching interface will not provide search suggestions to patrons. None of the changes you make in Search Suggestions go into effect until you remove accountability for the system.

To disable or enable search suggestions for a search profile

Choose Search Suggestions from the navigation pane.

Select the name of the search profile for which you want to disable or enable search suggestions.

Do one of the following.

To disable search suggestions, mark the Enable Search Suggestions check box to remove the check mark from the check box. The search suggestion fields are hidden when the Enable Search Suggestions check box is cleared.

To enable search suggestions, mark the Enable Search Suggestions check box to place a check mark in the check box. The search suggestion fields display when the Enable Search Suggestions check box is selected. If desired, complete the fields. (For details, see Fields: Edit Search Suggestions.)

Choose OK to save your changes, or choose Cancel to discard your changes and return to Search Suggestions.

If you enabled search suggestions, you must schedule the SUGGEST_TERM_JOB system task so the search suggestion list is updated each night. (For more information about the SUGGEST_TERM_JOB system task and how to schedule tasks, see Managing scheduled tasks.)
